When you decide to paint a room, the first thing that you need to do is to make sure that you plan out your approach before you get the paint brushes out. You should tape off areas that you do not want to get paint on and make sure that the floors in the room are protected.

Most of the time you can complete the prep work for painting a room in about a day or so, depending on the size of the space.

All furniture should be removed from the room. If you have large furniture in the room and cannot move it into another room, make sure that it is away from the walls and covered with some drop cloths. If you are going to paint the ceiling, make sure that you disconnect and remove any large light fixtures such as chandeliers.

When you are painting an entire room, the best approach is to work from the top down. This will help you see any drips and runs and then correct them as you go.

Start with the ceiling if you are painting it and then move onto painting the walls. You should paint walls before trim because you can work more quickly, which can result in splatters from the rollers.
